The Opportunity
Women & the Wind is a global storytelling platform focused on adventure, environmental action, and women-led exploration. As their Ambassador Program expanded, they needed a more cohesive way to support and showcase a growing, globally distributed network working across a wide range of disciplines, from sailing and climate advocacy to filmmaking and environmental storytelling. They lacked a centralized space for ambassadors to connect and for audiences to engage with their work, and they needed a polished, outward-facing presence that could live within Squarespace and be easily managed by their team. The goal was not to build a complex custom platform, but to create a thoughtful, sustainable system that felt true to their brand and could evolve alongside the program.
Our Approach
We partnered with Women & the Wind to design a digital ecosystem that strengthens their internal community while showcasing ambassador impact through a cohesive, outward-facing experience that integrates seamlessly into their existing website. The solution was built to be intuitive and sustainable, enabling their team to easily manage and evolve content over time without relying on complex systems, while staying true to their brand and values. Our approach was grounded in a deep discovery process, aligning on the goals of the Ambassador Program, how ambassadors connect and learn from one another, and how content is currently managed within Squarespace. From there, we defined a clear structure for what content should live privately versus publicly, how ambassadors would navigate and onboard into the platform, and how key information could remain simple to update as the program grows.
The Solution
We designed a two-part digital system that supports both community building and public storytelling, fully integrated within Women & the Wind’s existing Squarespace platform. The private, password-protected ambassador portal provides a space for participants to explore one another’s work, engage with shared themes, access resources, and feel connected to a broader global network, all within an experience that is intuitive, welcoming, and aligned with the organization’s adventurous spirit. In parallel, we developed a public-facing ambassador page that showcases the program to partners, funders, and audiences, highlighting its global reach and the impact of its participants. Together, these components form a cohesive platform that elevates storytelling, strengthens credibility, and supports long-term growth and recruitment. We intentionally worked within Squarespace to ensure the team retains full ownership, enabling fast updates without developer dependency while maintaining consistency with their existing site. The system is built for longevity, with custom layouts, clear editing guidance, and a scalable structure that allows new ambassadors to be added effortlessly as the program continues to evolve.
Impact & Strategic Value
Women & the Wind now operates with a cohesive digital platform that strengthens ambassador connection while elevating the visibility of their global community. The organization has a polished public presence that showcases ambassador-led work across environmental and adventure initiatives, paired with a private hub that fosters ongoing collaboration and engagement. Just as importantly, the system is fully owned by their team, enabling independent updates and long-term sustainability without reliance on external support. The result is a scalable foundation that grows alongside the program, supporting both community development and outward-facing storytelling. This work reflects Dark Sky’s ability to design community-centered digital experiences, translate brand values into functional systems, and deliver solutions that are both creatively thoughtful and operationally practical.
